Boogie Back Records
Boogie Back records was set up in the late 80's by Galliano Bassist Ernie McKone. It could be seen as a contemporary of labels such as Talkin Load and Acid Jazz, releasing records obviously inspired by the funky 70’s grooves that were being revived by the rare groove scene.
One of my favourite releases from the label was from Burnage’s very own Max Beesley (yes him off the telly). Before he graced our screens with programmes such as Hotel Babylon he was a very talented percussionist and studied at Manchester prestigious Chethams School of Music. His fellow pupil at the time was a certain Omar Lye-Fook and they teamed up to produce the excellent “Painful Truths”
Max also released a record with his then girlfriend Mica Paris called Fast Response. Obviously she was contracted to a major record label so it was released under the pseudonym of Sara Cimpi, an anagram of her name.
Another big success for the label was Misty Oldland – Got me a feeling (again featuring Omar). The boogie back release quickly sold out (I couldn’t get a copy : ( ). It was picked up by Columbia Records who gave it a major label release as well as an album, Supernatural, for Misty.
Last time I heard Boogie Back records was planning a re launch, not seen anything as of yet but I’ll be sure to feature it here.
